Palm stains on gloves aren’t good things and can reduce glove longevity, yet many people seek them out.. So if you want this stain on your baseball gloves this post will help to get a palm stain on your baseball gloves differently.

What Is A Palm Stain And Why Do People Want?

what is palm stain

If you are a baseball fan, you might be familiar with the term “palm stain”. However, if you are new to this field, let me explain it briefly. Palm stain is a natural occurrence in the pocket section that happens when you frequently play baseball. If you take a look at an old baseball glove, you can see a dark circle on the palm area, which is known as the palm stain.

Palm stain on baseball gloves is a natural process and it gets in the gloves over time but many people want to get the stain in overnight with artificial processes like applying conditioner and oils. They want to look their glove more rugged, show personality, and appear pretty.

How To Get A Palm Stain In Your Baseball Glove

Getting a palm stain on a baseball glove is not difficult at all. There are four simple ways to achieve this. I will explain these methods below and you can choose the one that works best for you.

1. Play Regularly

The simple and best way to get a stain on your glove is to play regularly because you know that getting a stain is a natural process. The main thing about this method is slowly getting the stain on the glove but the stain looks natural and prettier than the other one. If you want to get a stain in overnight you can switch the other way.

2. Apply The Oil

Applying oil is a quick method to get a stain overnight, but it can be risky for your glove. If you make a mistake during the process, your glove might get damaged. So, if you plan to use this method to get a stain, be cautious while applying the oil.

Apply the little oil in the center of the glove palm and if you want this section to get stained, rub gently in a circular motion if the oil is overdoing, highly chance of damaging your glove. So apply the oil gently and let the first coat fully dry then apply the other coat.

You can use any oil in this method and all oils can work but I highly recommend applying SARNA baseball glove oil to work well for your glove.

3. Apply The Conditioner

If you fail in the other one you can try this method to get the palm stain in a baseball glove. Simply apply the conditioner in the palm of the gloves or where you want to get the stain and rub gently in a circular motion. Make sure not to put the conditioner all over the gloves because it becomes a heavy glove and has a higher chance of damage.

You can use any conditioner, but my favorite is Rawlings Baseball/Softball Glove Conditioner. To get the stain in, apply two or three coats. Make sure the first coat is completely dry before applying the next one. If you overdo the conditioner, your glove may get damaged.

4. Play Dirt Ball

This method is as easy as playing ball, but the main difference is that you use a dirt ball in this session.

A natural way to get a stain while catching a baseball is to throw it repeatedly into the sand and then catch it with a glove. Another technique involves filling a bowl with lanolin oil and fully dipping the ball into the oil before placing it in the sand.

After sandblasting, take the ball and gently clean the upper layer of sand. Then, catch the ball with the leather baseball glove which you may want to get stained. You can play with this ball for at least one to two days regularly. After two days, you may notice a stain on the glove, which looks natural.

These are the four ways to get a stain on your gloves. Make sure in this process your gloves are not damaged so apply these methods to your spare gloves, because if the gloves are damaged then backup gloves are already at your hand.

Which Glove Is Best To Get In Palm Stain?

If you’re a fan of palm stains on gloves and you’re considering intentionally staining a new pair, you may want to reconsider. Specifically, if you’ve purchased dark-colored gloves, achieving a natural-looking stain won’t be possible.

However, if you buy light-colored gloves and the stain matters for you then you purchase the right glove because light-colored gloves catch the stain more quickly than the dark color.

If the palm stain is the factor for you then make sure you buy the right gloves, and if you have already gloves this artificial method is for you but make sure you apply these methods in spare gloves.
